New Delhi: New Delhi, January 21, 2022: Women’s roads will be widened and new lanes will be built in major cities, officials said on Tuesday.
The new routes will be open in major urban centres including Delhi, Chandigarh, Ghaziabad, New Delhi and Kolkata.
This will help women who travel by road in congested and often dangerous places such as the Jammu and Kashmir, the Punjab and Delhi.
The roads will also be used for other purpose besides road safety and for the transportation of goods, officials from the Road Transport and Highways Ministry said in a release.
The lanes will provide a better alternative to men and women travelling together on the same road.
This will be a significant step towards improving women’s safety, said Rakesh Tiwari, Additional Secretary (Highways), Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.
The lanes will also help women commuters who travel in the busy cities.
This would also help in making roads safer for people who are using them.
“It will help in reducing congestion on roads,” he said.
The roads will open in cities including Delhi and Chandigarcarh in the next few weeks, the ministry said.
